Dengue-stricken Cebu readies P2.3-M fund for mosquito nets


Health authorities in Central Visayas have set aside a P2.3-million fund to acquire mosquito nets to abate the spread of the killer disease dengue. Radio dzBB’s Cebu affiliate on Thursday reported that the Department of Health Central Visayas have readied the fund after a dengue outbreak was declared in six villages in Cebu City. Provincial officials have also steps to address the spread of the disease, which health authorities now consider a year-round threat. On Wednesday, health authorities in Central Visayas declared a dengue outbreak in six villages in Cebu City:

  • Guadalupe;
  • Labangon;
  • Lahug;
  • Tisa;
  • Apas, and
  • Talamban. Figures from the DOH indicated that there were 154 cases in Guadalupe village, 105 in Tisa, and 84 in Labangon. On the other hand, health authorities declared as dengue hotspots the villages of Banawa, Punta Princesa, Sambag II, and Tejero. DOH Central Visayas regional epidemiology surveillance unit nurse Rennan cimafranca said at least 7,241 cases had been recorded in Cebu province from January to September 18. –VVP, GMANews.TV
