Coast Guard rescues 16 tourists in Boracay


Coast Guard operatives rescued at least 16 tourists aboard two motor bancas that collided off world-famous Boracay Island in Western Visayas on Thursday. The Coast Guard on Friday reported the incident occurred at around 10:25 a.m. on Thursday, some 150 meters from the shoreline of Boat Station 3 in Manoc-Manoc village in Boracay. Citing a belated report, the Coast Guard said the incident involved the motor bancas "Phil-3" and "Sea Park," which carried 11 Taiwanese, three Filipinos and two Koreans. Those rescued were:

  • Yin Zhang (Korean), 31 The investigation showed that the boat "Sea Park," which was heading to a diving spot when it accidentally collided with the "Phil-3" boat that was island hopping at around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The crew of the "Sea Park" cited sudden poor visibility for the accident. The "Phil-3" boat sustained a hole on its hull and became stranded at sea. All the passengers were in good physical condition except for Vilma Obligacion, who suffered from high blood pressure. She was brought to Metropolitan Medical Clinic for immediate medical treatment and is now in stable condition, the Coast Guard said. –VVP, GMANews.TV
