PAGASA: Flash floods, landslides loom over Luzon, Visayas

Flash floods and landslides loom over western sections of Luzon and Visayas due to rains bolstered by a low-pressure area off Zambales province. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also said cloudy skies and rains loom over the rest of the country. "The whole country will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the Western sections of Central and southern Luzon and the Visayas, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. It said that as of 2 a.m. Saturday, the LPA was estimated at 130 km west-southwest of Subic, Zambales, embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone across Southern Luzon and Visayas. PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southeast to east will prevail over Northern Luzon and from the southeast over the eastern section of Central and Southern Luzon. Coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough, it said. On the other hand, PAGASA warned fishermen to take precautions against strong to gale-force winds affecting the seaboards of Northern Luzon. "Fishing boats and other small sea craft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
