Militant teachers give PNoy lone passing mark in poll duty benefits

While he got a failing grade on other subjects, President Benigno Aquino III got a lone passing grade from militant teachers — on compensation and security for teachers doing poll duty — in his first 100 days. The Alliance for Concerned Teachers gave Aquino a "75" or "Passed" grade on the subject in its "report card" for his first 100 days in office. "Passed," ACT said in a report card published on its website, on the subject "Teachers’ Compensation, Security, and Protection in the Performance of Election Duties." But the group gave Aquino a failing grade in virtually all other subjects, that added up to an average of 71.83, a "Failed" grade. Other subjects ACT graded Aquino on included:

  • Education Budget to Address Perennial Shortages, 70
  • Salaries and Benefits, 70
  • GSIS Issues, 73
  • Justice for Teachers Who Have Been Victims of Human Rights Violation, 73; and
  • Curriculum, 70 ACT gave Aquino "unsatisfactory" marks for:
  • Prosecution of former President Gloria Arroyo;
  • Genuine Land Reform; and
  • Resumption of Peace Talks with the National Democratic Front and Moro Islamic Liberation Front. But it gave him "outstanding" marks for:
  • Puppetry to US
  • Worsening Human Rights Violation and Political Repression
  • Anti-People 2011 Budget
  • Denationalization, Privatization, and Liberalization of Philippine Economy
  • Imposition of Additional Taxes and Increase in Charges of Public Utilities
  • Incompetence in Handling the Manila Hostage Crisis
  • Appointment of Incompetent and Morally Questionable Friends; and
  • Allies in both Civilian and Military Bureaucracy. Earlier this week, Malacañang said Aquino will continue performing his duties as he sees fit regardless of what critics may say of his performance during his first 100 days in office.
