Two maltreated OFWs flee Jordan employers


The relatives of two young overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who ran away from their employers in Jordan are seeking the government's help for the repatriation of their loved ones. The relatives, based in Bacolod City, asked the city government for help for the two sisters, who are still in Jordan. According to the Visayan Daily Star news site on Thursday, the two OFWs are: Melith Ante, 25, and sister Lenen, 27. Migrante Negros chairman Larry Occeña said the two were recruited for janitorial jobs in Jordan but when they arrived there, they were forced to work as domestic helpers and were maltreated. He said the two also escaped a rape attempt during their stay at their employers' house. According to Occeña, the sisters were illegally recruited in Bacolod City and flew to Jordan on July 7. After two months of being maltreated not being paid and , the sisters escaped from their employers. Melith is now in the custody in the Philippine Embassy in Jordan while Lenen is staying in an agency in Jordan, Occeña said. –VVP, GMANews.TV
