Pacquiao skips training camp, to join charity run

Manny Pacquiao will skip two days of his training camp in Baguio City after deciding to attend a runfest for charity slated early Sunday morning in Manila. The Filipino southpaw and his entourage hurriedly left the City of Pines late Saturday afternoon, shortly after he had sparred for six rounds at the Shape Up gym inside the Cooyesan Hotel. Pacquiao is among the big celebrities who have committed to join the 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River. This marks the second time in a week the 31-year-old Filipino boxing sensation has broken camp. Last Sunday, Pacquiao also left for a day to attend the birthday celebration of his daughter Princess Grace, and also serve as the special guest at a military sports competition held in Camp Crame.

But unlike last week, the congressman from the lone district of the province of Sarangani won't be back in the country’s Summer Capital until late Monday, as he is reportedly scheduled to meet President Aquino and other House of Representative members from the South early in the day. This means that Pacquiao will miss working out for yet another day, although if plans push through, he will be doing his Monday roadwork at the Luneta Granstand. Trainer Freddie Roach recently became strict with Pacquiao's training for his November 13 title fight against Mexican Antonio Margarito. He imposed strictly closed-door session beginning last Monday after fans and curious onlookers flocked to the gym during the first few days. Saturday was a bit of an exception, though. As Pacquiao sparred for three rounds each with Michael Medina and Glen Tapia, watching at ringside were members of the RP men and women's boxing teams, together with Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) executive director Ed Picson. The national team members, who are also training for the Guangzhou Asian Games in Baguio, also had a brief chat with the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter before having a group photo taken with him. – JVP, GMANews.TV
