More Palace appointees: FPJ daughter is new MTRCB chief

President Benigno Aquino III has named Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares, daughter of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. and veteran actress Susan Roces, as the new head of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, Malacañang said Sunday. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte also announced over government-run Radyo ng Bayan (dzRB) the appointment of lawyer Jose Luis Gascon as board member of the Bases Conversion Development Authority. National Home Mortgage Fund Corporation president Joseph Peter Singson and Philippine Trade Training Center Deputy Executive Director Nestor Palabyab will also retain their posts, said Valte Valte, in an interview over dzRB, said all appointments especially of Poe-Llamanzares were screened by a search committee, adding that their appointments were based on their credentials and track records. The appointees enjoy the President's trust and confidence, she added. Llamanzares will replace Consoliza Laguardia, who is reportedly being eyed for another position in the Aquino government. Llamanzares’ father, considered the “King of Philippine Movies" by entire generations of Filipino moviegoers, ran in the May 2004 presidential elections but lost to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Allegations of massive cheating marred the elections that year, but Arroyo denied she rigged poll returns. Poe, however, did not live to see his cause prosper as he died of a massive stroke in December 2004. Gascon, for his part, served as the Liberal Party's secretary general. Sison is a lawyer and former councilor of Quezon City, while Palabyab was first appointed by Arroyo to the PTTC as deputy executive director.—With Sophie Dedace/JV, GMANews.TV
