Phivolcs: Mild quakes hit Samar, Gensan; no damage reported

Quakes with a magnitude 4.5 and 4.2 hit Eastern Visayas and Mindanao respectively on Sunday night but state seismologists said no damage was reported. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said a magnitude-4.5 quake was recorded east of Catbalogan (Samar) at 8:05 p.m. on Sunday. It said the quake was tectonic and its epicenter was traced to 34 kilometers (km) northeast of Catbalogan, Samar. Another quake measuring magnitude 4.2 occurred in Mindanao, with the epicenter 169 km southeast of General Santos City. Phivolcs said the Mindanao quake was tectonic and was recorded at 9:46 p.m. No aftershocks are expected from both quakes. –VVP, GMANews.TV
