DepEd reminds candidates: Schools off limits to campaign posters

The Department of Education (DepEd) reminded candidates in the October 25 elections that schools should be "off limits" to campaign posters. Radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported that the DepEd issued the reminder to barangay (barangay) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK, youth council) candidates. The report said DepEd will coordinate with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in going after candidates who will post campaign paraphernalia in schools. The Comelec had ruled that the official campaign period should start only on Thursday, October 14. However, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported on Monday that posters of certain candidates were already placed in key areas in Quezon City. Many of the posters were "greetings" to residents celebrating fiestas. Other posters listed the "accomplishment reports" of the incumbent officials. Similar tactics were also observed in Manila. –VVP, GMANews.TV
