Dancing tax collectors net bigger collection

Barely a week after starting their dance routine, tax collectors in Cebu City have noticed a big increase in their collections and more inquiries from taxpayers about their show schedules. Radio dzBB’s Cebu affiliate reported that the City Treasurer’s office have also been swamped with requests from foreign media outfits for interviews and photo and video opportunities. The report quoted City Treasurer Ofelia Oliva as saying they noticed a big increase in tax collections, although she did not immediately give figures. Oliva also said many taxpayers called up their office to ask what time the dancing tax collectors would put up a show. Starting on Monday, some 320 tax collectors received rave reviews after getting up from their desks and dancing to the beat of a popular song. The dzBB report said a crew from Agence France Presse went to the City Treasurer’s office Wednesday and took photos of the dancing tax collectors. The UK-based Reuters has also requested permission to take photos and videos of the dancing tax collectors, it added. –VVP, GMANews.TV
