Candidates barred from campaigning inside North Cemetery

Amid a festive and messy start of the campaign period for the Oct. 25 barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) elections, Manila North Cemetery authorities are making sure campaigning candidates do not wake the dead and the living in its premises. Radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported Thursday that officials of the Manila North Cemetery reminded candidates they will not be allowed to campaign inside the Manila North Cemetery, which is also home to a number of families. North Cemetery officer-in-charge administrator Ed Noriega said candidates will not be allowed to enter the premises, especially now that cemetery workers are preparing for the All Saints’ occasion. He said there are families living inside, but did not mention how many people are actually living there. The report said the cemetery management will ask candidates caught campaigning inside the cemetery to leave the place. As early as midnight Wednesday, supporters of some candidates began the campaign period on a festive note, holding street parties and posting campaign materials on posts and power lines. — LBG, GMANews.TV
