Report: Barangay bet kills self due to lack of campaign funds

While other candidates for the Oct. 25 barangay (village) elections started campaigning full-blast Thursday, a candidate in Bukidnon province shot himself dead, supposedly after realizing he lacked funds for his campaign. Radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen reported candidate Martin Villaflor shot himself with a 12-gauge shotgun. Thursday marked the start of the campaign period for the Oct. 25 elections. Villaflor was running for a village post in Ninoy Aquino village in Kalilangan town in Bukidnon. The dzBB report cited initial information reaching Philippine National Police headquarters indicating Villaflor decided to end it all after he realized he was running against his own relative, and lacked funds to campaign. Kalilangan is a fourth-class town with a population of 36,557 people in 5,873 households. — LBG, GMANews.TV
