Palace names ex-AFP chief of staff as envoy to Brunei


Malacañang has nominated former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Lt. Gen. Nestor Ochoa as ambassador to Brunei, President Benigno Aquino III’s deputy spokeswoman said Saturday. Deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte made the announcement on government-run dzRB radio, where she also disclosed the Palace’s appointments to the Cebu Ports Authority. She also reiterated the appointment of Noe Wong as ambassador to Cambodia. President Aquino appointed Ochoa as acting AFP chief of staff at the start of his presidency, but has replaced him with Gen. Ricardo David Jr. Last July, Aquino said Ochoa will be named as ambassador to an Asian country. Earlier, Valte announced the new commissioners of the Cebu Ports Authority. They are:

  • Former Maritime Industry Authority administrator Vicente Suazo Jr., as commissioner representing the shipping sector;
  • Benjamin Akol, commissioner (also shipping sector);
  • Arturo Barrit, commissioner representing cargo handling;
  • Lawyer Joselito Quedaria;
  • Engineer Carlos Co, representing the business sector; and
  • Engineer Dennis Villamor, (also business sector) — LBG, GMANews.TV
