Tanduay closes Cabuyao warehouse

Lucio Tan-owned Tanduay Distillers Inc. on Monday said it is temporarily shutting down its Cabuyao, Laguna plant after a fire damaged a portion of the facility on Oct. 15. “As a result of the fire, Tanduay’s plant would be temporarily shut down until investigation has been completed and rehabilitation of the storage area is done," the company said in its statement to the Philippine Stock Exchange. “We assure our loyal customers and trade partners that the plant shut down will not affect supply. We have ample inventory in other warehouses and therefore there is no expected supply shortage due to the incident," Tanduay Distillers added. Tanduay Distillers’ other bottling facilities in Manila, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro are presently operating in full capacity. A 200-square-meter portion of Tanduay’s alcohol warehouse caught fire at 7:40 p.m. on Friday. A warehouse employee, who sustained third-degree burns, is now in “guarded-but-stable" condition in St. James Hospital in Cabuyao, Laguna, said Tanduay Distillers. There were no other casualties during the incident, the firm said, noting that the fire was contained in a small portion of its factory warehouse.
