Tarlac town placed under state of calamity

A town in Tarlac province was placed under a state of calamity after floods caused by heavy rains brought by Typhoon Juan forced many families to flee their homes Thursday. Radio dzBB quoted La Paz town Vice Mayor Paulino Sangil as saying that they will spend the P2-million calamity fund for rice and medicines for the affected families. Several families were brought to at least four evacuation centers after floods reaching waist-high levels hit the town.

As of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, dzBB's Allan Gatus reported that the floods have yet to subside, while some residents tried to make money from the situation. The report said many residents caught fish and sold them along the national highway. For their part, the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Army sent teams to the town to secure the residents there. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
