Elections delayed in several Luzon barangays

Elections will be delayed in several villages in Luzon due to the late arrival of poll paraphernalia on Monday. Radio dzBB’s Nimfa Ravelo also reported the elections were held off in three more areas:

  • San Isidro and Salumague, both in Paniqui, Tarlac (schools were turned into evacuation centers after typhoon "Juan"), and
  • Cagayancillo, Palawan (poll paraphernalia were not expected to arrive on time). The barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in 39 other areas in Divilacan, Maconacon and Palanan towns in Isabela were also postponed earlier as these areas were hit hard by super-typhoon “Juan" (international name: Megi) last week. On the other hand, radio dzBB’s Palawan affiliate reported several villages in Cagayancillo town in Palawan will be delayed due to the late arrival of poll paraphernalia. The report said the paraphernalia arrived in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan Sunday night and may not reach Cagayancillo in time. Cagayancillo is a sixth-class town with a population of 6,348 people in 947 households. Meanwhile, the Comelec said security was tight in hotspots in Metro Manila including Bagumbayan in Taguig City and Payatas in Quezon City. However, Comelec spokesman James Arthur Jimenez said they expect results to be known within the day, especially in areas where the ballots and paraphernalia arrived on time. “Within the day. Sa mga magbubukas ngayon malalaman agad ang resulta (Within the day, we expect the results to be known immediately in areas where the elections go smoothly)," Jimenez said on dzBB radio. –VVP, GMANews.TV
