PNP: Missing Quezon town police chief found

A town police official in Quezon who was reported missing following an encounter with communist rebels late Sunday was found Monday and is now undergoing debriefing. Radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported that Senior Inspector Glenn Miralles was found near Talisay village less than 24 hours after the encounter. Miralles is the police chief of San Andres town. The report quoted Philippine National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo as saying that a team headed by provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Erickson Velasquez located Miralles. However, the report did not say if Miralles was injured or threatened. At least one suspected communist New People's Army rebel was killed while two policemen were wounded in Sunday's encounter. Earlier Monday, Bacalzo said two police personnel ambushed by the NPA were accounted for. (See: PNP: 2 of 7 missing cops in Quezon accounted for) With Miralles found, only four policemen remain missing. Bacalzo said they consider Sunday’s ambush an election-related incident since the policemen were about to perform an election-related duty when they were waylaid. He said the policemen were going to Talisay village to secure the polling centers there but were ambushed by "40 to 50" NPA rebels. — with Sophia Dedace/RSJ, GMANews.TV
