2 dead, 4 missing as boat capsizes off Aparri


(Updated 5:35 p.m.) SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela – Two people were killed while four others were missing when an engine-powered boat capsized off this northern Luzon town Tuesday night, a police official said on Wednesday. Police Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca, Cagayan provincial police director, said the two female fatalities, one of them identified as Myrna Selina, were brought to the Pineda Funeral Parlor. Eight other passengers were rescued and brought to Aparri Christian Hospital for treatment, Aplasca said. They were Jomar Bumagat, Roman Baloloy, Jessie Besario, Antonio Andave, Freddie Pedronan, Richard Bacunana, Mariano Bacunana and Randy Capalaran. A team composed of personnel from Cagayan police, Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Fire Protection has launched a search and rescue mission to look for Daniel Peralta, Amboy Osorio, Agosto Calipini and one still unidentified female passenger. Aplasca said the boat, owned by one Dominador Bumagat, was on its way to Calayan town when big waves pounded it until it capsized at around 9 p.m. off Barangay Maura. - with Joel Nueva/KBK, GMANews.TV
