Sick Patrombon bows out of singles event in Thailand

Top seed Jeson Patrombon played sick in his opening singles match where he suffered a 2-6, 2-6 defeat against Kevin Kaczynski of Germany in the LTAT-ITF Junior Grade 2 in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The 17-year-old Patrombon, who had a fever due to the sudden change of climate after a brief stint in Japan, will still play in the doubles with Uzbekistan partner Sergey Shipalov. Patbombon and Shipalov are seeded second to earn a first round bye in the main draw where they will face local bets Nattan Benjasupawan and Warit Sornbutnark on Thursday after the Thai pair scored a 6-2, 7-5 win against Kong Pot Lertchai of Thailand and Amer Naow of Syria. "He has a fever and a cold due to the sudden change of weather from Japan’s cold weather to extreme heat in Thailand. His stomach was also aching and he threw up so many times in the bathroom that I gave him hydrite and electrolytes to drink for his body to recover," said coach Manny Tecson. Tecson is now thinking of withdrawing Patrombon from the tournament, even if the Iligan City native says he still wants to compete. "Unfortunately, that is not good enough at this level ,and when you are not 100 percent physically and mentally, you are going to pay the price," said Tecson. Patrombon might also skip the rest of his scheduled international tournaments in the next two months for him to fully recover. Patrombon’s next stop is the Asia/Oceania Closed Championship in Korea from November 2 to 7, the Yucatan World Cup in Mexico from November 22 to 27, the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships (Nov. 29 to December 5) and Dunlop Orange Bowl (Dec. 6 to 12), both to be played in US. – JVP/KY, GMANews.TV
