MMDA to lead traffic management summit Nov 17

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will lead a multi-stakeholder traffic management summit on November 17 to formulate a transport plan for Metro Manila. Scheduled at the University of Asia and the Pacific, the summit aims to address gaps in Metro Manila's traffic management policy. The expected participants at the MMDA summit include:

  • the Land Transportation Office (LTO);
  • Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB);
  • Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC);
  • the Philippine Coast Guard, and
  • the local traffic bureaus of the 17 local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR). Major transport organizations are enjoined to participate in the comprehensive seminar cum workshop, the MMDA said. "The Summit comes at a time when the MMDA is about to implement the number coding scheme for buses that ply EDSA, a measure that was approved by the Metro Manila Council," MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said on the MMDA website. He added that he looks forward to hearing the plans and suggestions of participating agencies' and the transport leaders to improve traffic and public transportation. The Coast Guard and the DOTC will be involved in the planned summit as the MMDA is exploring the use of the Pasig River ferry system as a means to ease vehicular traffic gridlock in major thoroughfares. –VVP, GMANews.TV
