Woman gives birth to baby boy while riding LRT

(Updated 7:20 p.m.) A 23-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy while riding Metro Manila's Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 on Saturday morning, an LRT official said. Geraldine Mahinay gave birth inside an LRT-1 coach at the Pedro Gil train station in Manila shortly before 12 noon Saturday, LRT Administration public relations head Evelyn Paragas said. The report said Mahinay and her sister-in-law, Jesryl, were on their way to the Jose Favella Memorial Hospital in Manila from their house in Parañaque City for a scheduled check-up when the pregnant woman felt contractions and went into labor. Security guards at the train station immediately brought Mahinay and her son to the nearby Philippine General Hospital (PGH) after the child was born, she added. LRT-1's Pedro Gil station is right in front of the PGH along Taft Avenue. The mother and child are still confined in the PGH as of posting time, according to Paragas.—Andreo C. Calonzo/JV, GMANews.TV
