PNoy will not declare Nov 2 holiday at last minute

Making a case of daily-wage workers, President Benigno Aquino III put his foot down Sunday night and said he would not make a last-minute notice to make Nov. 2 a non-working holiday. Interviewed after arriving from Vietnam to attend the 5th East Asia Summit and the 17th ASEAN Summit, Aquino said he had to think of the welfare of workers who will lose their wages for a day if Tuesday were made a holiday. “Umaalma ang mga taong arawan ang sweldo, pag dumadami ang holiday, aano naman pag dumadami ang holiday paano ang sweldo nila (There have been complaints from daily-wage earners that if there are so many holidays, they lose their wages for each holiday)," he said. Malacañang had declared Nov. 1 a non-working day, but Nov. 2 as a regular working day. Aquino also cited claims by business groups that they would have preferred a non-working day at the end of the week instead of at the beginning. “Pinakamahirap bigyan ng holiday Monday parang maapektuhan ang buong linggo, ito ang nirereklamo ng iba’t ibang negosyo. Kung pwede sa katapusan ng linggo, sa Friday," he said. (It is also the complaint of businesses that declaring a holiday at the start of the week like Monday already affects productivity for the rest of the week. They would rather have it at the end of the week, on a Friday)," he said. - DM, GMANews.TV
