PNP chief leads inspection of cemeteries

With Filipinos expected to flock to cemeteries on All Souls’ Day, November 2, top police officials inspected security measures in major cemeteries and memorial parks in Metro Manila early Monday. Philippine National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo personally led the inspections, starting with the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City at 6 a.m. “Titingnan ko ang kalagayan ng sementeryo at daan at kalye papunta sementeryo (I am inspecting the state of the cemeteries and the roads leading to them)," Bacalzo said in an interview on dzXL radio. He said he planned to spend Monday inspecting the state of security in cemeteries and memorial parks in Metro Manila and Southern Luzon. Bacalzo also reminded his men they are on full alert for Monday and will remain so “as needed." “Naka-full alert tayo. Bawal ang leave at bawal ang absent. Ang pulis naka-deploy lalo sa sementeryo at daan at kalye patungo sa sementeryo (We are on full alert. We will not allow leaves and absences. Police should be deployed at cemeteries and roads leading to cemeteries)," he said. Meanwhile, Bacalzo appealed to Filipinos to plan their trips to the cemeteries well. As of Monday morning, he said the cemeteries were not yet crowded, partly due to the rains since Sunday midnight. “Ngayon umikot ako maluwag pa, mas maganda siguro maaga pa pumunta na (As of Monday morning, the crowds are relatively sparse so it would be a good idea to visit the cemeteries early)," he said. –VVP, GMANews.TV
