PNoy to visit parents' tomb Tuesday

President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and his family will visit the tombs of his famous parents on Tuesday, All Souls' Day. Upon arriving in Manila from Vietnam Sunday night, Aquino said he and his sisters want some quiet time to pray at the tombs of their parents, former President Corazon Aquino and former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City. "Gusto namin ng oras para makapagdasal nang maayos, magunita ang aming mga magulang. Pag nakipagsisiksikan tayo ng November 1 maraming masyadong kasing ano, dumadami ang kasama namin sa puntod, hindi kami nakakadasal ," Aquino said in an interview. (We want time to pray in peace and remember our parents. If we go on November 1 there are too many people around the tombs, we won't be able to pray.) Aquino did not declare November 2 a holiday. Ninoy was fatally shot on Aug. 23, 1983 at the Manila International Airport (now Ninoy Aquino International Airport) upon his return from exile in the United States. Mrs. Aquino, meanwhile, passed away on August 1 last year after battling colon cancer. Her death gave rise to calls for Noynoy, then a senator, to run for president. The president said he will spend November 1 studying documents he wasn't able to attend to because of his five-day visit to Vietnam, where he had a two-day state visit and attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit. "Meron silang binigay sa akin na trabahong papeles na dapat raw aaksiyunan ngayong gabi so iyon muna ang aasikasuhin ko (They gave me documents that I need to act on tonight so that's what I'm going to work on for now)," he said. Aquino said he will also monitor the situation in cemeteries to ensure that there is peace and order despite the large crowd expected to pay their respects to their deceased loved ones. — Jam Sisante/RSJ, GMANews.TV
