Thai netters dominate ICTSI-ITF Women's tilt

Top favorite Nungnadda Wannasuk of Thailand stamped her class over Yoko Naito of Japan, 6-2, 6-0, to serve notice of her title aspirations in the ICTSI-ITF Women’s Circuit Week 1 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center Wednesday. Flexing her muscles right from the start, the topseeded Thai played near to perfection. She was able to get her rhythm going and didn’t allow her Japanese foe any chance for a comeback, thus easily advancing to the second round of the knockout stage tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association. Marinel Rudas, the Philippines’ only hope in this International Tennis Federation ranking tour event, bowed out after losing to Kim Jung-Eun of South Korea, 1-6, 2-6. The Filipinas were wiped out in the early stage of this event as they fell prey to their fancied foreign rivals. Thailand sent a strong contingent, including Varatchaya Wongteanchai and Peangthan Pliphuech. The No.4 seed Wongteanchai defeated Han Na-Lae of South Korea, 7-5, 6-0, while the seventh-seed Pliphuech had an easier time disposing of Hiromi Ozaki, 6-1, 6-0. But one of the fancied Thai netters got the upset axe Wednesday. No. 6 seed Nicha Lertpitaksinchai.was stunned by South Korea Shin Jung-Yoon in a thrilling three-set encounter, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Chanelle Van Nguyen of the United States also pulled off a stunner, disposing of No.8 seed Lin Zhu of China, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. - Rey Joble, GMANews.TV
