'Despicable' on way to $500 million worldwide

LOS ANGELES – "Despicable Me" continues to wow family audiences in 23 international territories, earning an impressive $19.1 million this past weekend, well on its way to a $500 million worldwide gross. Evidence that global audiences love to be universally scared can be seen in the No. 2 and No. 3 films in the international markets, with "Paranormal Activity 2" in 22 territories earning $13.9 million and "Saw 3D" just $1 million behind with $12.9 million, but in 10 fewer territories. "Megamind," which is opening this Friday in North America, is already playing in the Ukraine and has earned $9.5 million since opening there on Oct. 28.
