Quakes rock Mindanao, Bicol

A magnitude-5 quake rocked parts of Mindanao Friday night, but there was no initial report of casualty or damage. The United States Geological Survey said the quake was recorded at 8:13 p.m., with the epicenter at 130 km east of Davao. It said the epicenter was also 155 km south-southeast of Hinatuan, 205 km east-northeast of General Santos, or 1,050 km southeast of Manila. Earlier Friday, a mild magnitude-2.8 quake rocked Burias Island shortly before noon — a day after a magnitude-5.2 quake hit the same area. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 11:11 a.m., with the epicenter 30 kms southwest of San Pascual in Burias Island. Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic but did not immediately provide information on what areas the quake was felt. No damage or aftershock was expected from the quake, it added.—JV, GMANews.TV
