PAGASA: LPA to bring more rains to north Luzon

Floods and landslides still threaten parts of northern Luzon as rains a low-pressure area (LPA) off Bicol is spawning may continue to pour in the area, state weather forecasters said Saturday. But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA is no longer likely to intensify into a cyclone as it is already near land. “Yes, it is possible rains will continue in northern Luzon. The LPA is likely to bring those rains," PAGASA forecaster Rommel Yutuc said in an interview on dzBB radio. In a separate interview, PAGASA forecaster Leny Ruiz said the LPA is too near land to intensify into a cyclone. The weather condition would have been codenamed “Luis" had it become a cyclone. Still, Ruiz said the LPA will bring rains in that part of Luzon. “There is little chance of the LPA becoming a cyclone because it is too near a land mass," Ruiz said on dzRH radio. PAGASA’s 5 a.m. bulletin said that as of 2 a.m. Saturday, the LPA was estimated at 80 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. It warned of possible flash floods and landslides in northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon. “Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. The rest of the country will be mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms," it said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
