PAGASA: New LPA spotted off Cagayan

A new low-pressure area (LPA) off Cagayan province threatens to extend the woes of residents affected by floods and landslides in Northern Luzon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the LPA was estimated to be 110 km east of Tuguegarao City as of 8am on Saturday, November 6. "This weather disturbance will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Luzon becoming widespread rains over Northern and the Eastern section of Cenral Luzon which may aggravate floodings and landslides," the agency said in its 11am advisory. Residents living in the affected areas are advised to take the necessary precautionary measures. PAGASA did not mention the probability of the LPA intensifying into a cyclone. An independent weather forecasting site said that there is a 40 percent chance that the LPA may become a cyclone within the next 48 hours. However, the website was quick to add that the LPA is "becoming disorganized" as it approaches Northeastern Luzon. "Heavy rains that could cause flash floods can be expected along Northeastern Luzon, particularly Isabela and Cagayan," the website cautioned. - TJD, GMANews.TV
