Remains of OFW killed in Macau apartment fall repatriated

Philippine officials in Macau have repatriated the remains of a 46-year-old female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who fell from the sixth floor of her apartment building last month. Citing belated reports, the Department of Foreign Affairs said the OFW, who died last October 4, was repatriated last October 29. "Formerly a household worker, the OFW reportedly died when she accidentally fell from the sixth floor of an apartment building where she was residing with her cousin and another boarder in Rua De S. Miguel, Macau on October 4," the DFA said in a report posted on its website. It said the OFW's cousin reported to the Consulate that the accident occurred while he was not at home. He said he was later informed by his boarder that a group of people and police were milling around in the ground floor of the building where the accident happened. The victim was brought to the Macau hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Before her death, the OFW had a series of consular transactions with the Consulate, the DFA said. The Consulate General immediately requested police assistance in the investigation report together with the retrieval of documents needed to identify the dead OFW. "Since the deceased was not an OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) member, the Consulate General immediately requested the DFA Office of Undersecretary for Migrant Workers to make arrangements for sources of funding so that the remains of the deceased could be repatriated immediately," the DFA said.—JV, GMANews.TV
