Dolphy to get Golden Heart collar from PNoy

Despite having endorsed Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. in the May 10 presidential polls, actor-comedian Rodolfo “Dolphy" Quizon will be awarded and feted by President Aquino in Malacañang Monday for his lifetime achievements. Dolphy, 82, will receive the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart from Aquino, said deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte. Dolphy endorsed the presidential bid of Nacionalista Party standard bearer Villar who finished third after Aquino and former president Joseph Estrada. “This conferment is in recognition of the life achievements of Mr. Quizon, both in terms of his show business career, where his comedy has brought joy to millions, but just as importantly, his well-known philanthropy and encouragement of charitable and good causes as well," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio. Valte said she did not know who recommended Dolphy for the award. The Order of the Golden Heart, established in 1954 by the late President Ramon Magsaysay, recognizes “those who have rendered distinguished services or given noteworthy monetary or other material aid, encouragement to the campaign for the amelioration and improvement of the moral, social, and economic conditions of the Filipino masses, and for volunteerism in the service of the Filipino masses." Among Dolphy’s citations for the award is the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation, which gives scholarships to deserving children of overseas Filipino workers. "Throughout his professional career, Mr. Quizon has brought entertainment to millions while upholding high standards in his profession. He has also characterized his other causes, even political advocacies, with good natured decency and respect for all," according to a statement from the office of presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda. The Grand Collar was first awarded to Helen Keller, a noted humanitarian and author from the United States, in 1955, the statement added. — With Larissa Mae Suarez/VS, GMANews.TV
