2 suspected hijackers killed in Pampanga shootout

Two suspected hijackers were killed in a shootout with Highway Patrol Group (HPG) operatives in Bacolor, Pampanga, after they attempted to escape a police road block set up to capture them. On Sunday night, one Jojo Padilla reported to the Special Operatives Division (SOD) of the HPG that his Isuzu truck had been hijacked. An HPG-SOD team was immediately deployed for the possible recovery of the vehicle. At around 1 a.m. on Monday, the SOD received information that a truck with the same ID as Padilla’s vehicle had been seen northbound, along Malinta, about to enter the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). The SOD team notified the Police Provincial Offices (PPO) in Bulacan and Pampanga to alert them. When the team caught up with the vehicle along OG road, it sped off towards MacArthur Highway in Bacolor, Pampanga. By then, the Bacolor PPO had established a road block, but the suspects inside the truck tried to ram past the barricades, and fired shots at the HPG-SOD team. A shootout ensued until the truck crashed into a road fence. Padilla positively identified the two suspects who died in the incident as the hijackers. Their names have not been released by police officials. The police recovered the hijacked truck and two cal.45 pistols from the suspects. Scene of the crime operatives and Bacolor investigators processed the scene, indicating that they would later release an official report. — with Larissa Mae Suarez/RSJ, GMANews.TV
