QC reminds establishments about rules on showing Pacquiao fight

The Quezon City government reminded establishment owners that they could face possible sanctions if they charge their customers extra for showing the Pacquiao-Margarito boxing fight live on November 14 without registering their tickets. City Administrator Victor Endriga said the establishments that will be charging their customers an extra fee must pay the necessary amusement tax and register the tickets they will be using for showing Pacquiao's fight. The amusement tax is equivalent to 10 percent of the gross earnings from the tickets sold for showing the fight. Endriga issued the warning after learning that not a single establishment — particularly restaurants, bars, and hotels in Quezon City — has registered tickets for the Pacquiao fight. He noted that many establishments have already posted tarpaulin banners and advertisements about the live showing of Pacquiao's fight. Pacquiao's World Boxing Council (WBC) super-welterweight fight against Antonio Margarito is slated on November 13, Saturday (November 14, Sunday in Manila) at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Endriga directed the City’s Task Force on Amusement Tax (TFAT), a group that monitors establishments that are not paying proper taxes, to remind the establishments planning to air the fight about their duties. According to Joselito Sinocruz, TFAT Inspector, a citywide operation will be conducted on Sunday to catch those who will be airing Pacquiao's fight illegally. Those who will be caught will be forced to stop the airing of the fight. People's Champ Manny Pacquiao or Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao is a seven-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win nine world titles in seven different weight divisions. The Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) has named him "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000s. Pacquiao is currently the WBO Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion). He was rated as the number 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world by several sporting news and boxing websites, such as the Ring Magazine, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NBC Sports, Yahoo! Sports and About.com. He is the first active boxer to become a congressman in the Philippines. – VVP, GMANews.TV
