Phivolcs: Quakes rock Mindanao, southern Luzon

A magnitude-3.3 rocked the Surigao area in Mindanao shortly after midnight Tuesday, but state seismologists said there was no damage or casualty expected. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday. Phivolcs traced the epicenter to 92 km northeast of Surigao City. [See: Phivolcs earthquake bulletin 1, Nov. 10] It said the quake was tectonic but did not specify where it was felt, or at what intensity. No aftershocks were expected, Phivolcs said. On the other hand, Phivolcs said two quakes were recorded Tuesday night in parts of southern Luzon. The first, measuring magnitude 3.1, was recorded at 9:40 p.m., with the epicenter at 29 km southwest of Batangas City. [See: Phivolcs earthquake bulletin 2, Nov. 10] Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic and was felt at Intensity II in Ilijan town in Batangas province. The second quake in southern Luzon measured at magnitude 3.1 and was recorded at 11:14 p.m. It was tectonic, with the epicenter at 17 km southwest of Tagaytay City. No aftershock was expected from the two Luzon quakes, Phivolcs said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
