Father, 2 sons die from electrocution in Cagayan

A man and his two sons died on Tuesday after being electrocuted in the northern Philippine province of Cagayan, a belated police report said Wednesday. Antonio Saring and sons Elton and Apolinario were killed after a live wire grounded a clothesline near their house in Camalaniugan town at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Cagayan provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca told reporters on Wednesday. An initial investigation of the incident revealed that Antonio’s daughter, Amalia, was hanging clothes on a clothesline connected to a metal pole when a drop wire from a nearby Cagayan Electric Cooperative (CAGELCO) main power line grounded the pole. Antonio was able to save his daughter from electrocution, but ended up being electrocuted himself, according to Aplasca. The two other sons also tried to rescue their father but were also electrocuted, he added. The victims were rushed to the hospital following the incident, but were declared dead on arrival. Aplasca likewise said that investigators will look into CAGELCO’s possible liability in the incident. — with Andreo Calonzo/RSJ, GMANews.TV
