Fire hits residential area near Malacañang

Fire of undetermined origin hit a residential area near the Malacañang compound in Manila before dawn Friday. Radio dzBB's Paulo Santos cited sketchy initial reports indicating the fire was near the St. Jude School in San Miguel district. There was no initial report of damage or casualties, even as firefighters rushed to the site. A separate report on dwIZ radio said firefighters placed the fire under control as of 4:24 a.m. Initial investigation showed the fire affected the house of the Padilla family, and damaged some P1 million in property.—JV, GMANews.TV
