Miriam 'does a Miriam' on YouTube

Sen. Miriam Santiago shared online Friday a video of her "doing a Miriam" in Turkey last month. The senator took a dive in front of dozens of people just as she was about to deliver a paper at a global forum in Istanbul. "Don't lose your confidence if you slip... Be grateful for a pleasant trip And pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again," Santiago said in her Twitter account on Friday. She also posted a link to a 15-second YouTube video of the incident. The clip showed Santiago, wearing a yellow dress, taking a fall at the 10-second mark. "Due to public demand by her Facebook fans, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago has authorized the release of the video showing how she fell on the stage of a global forum in Istanbul , Turkey," read the video description on Santiago's official YouTube channel, DefensorSantiago2010. The note further explained that Santiago is suffering from hypothyroidism, which gives her chronic fatigue. "Despite the fall, the senator proceeded to the podium, and received an ovation. She then proceeded to read her paper," the note added. Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Pedro Chan was credited as the source of the video. Santiago 's fall in Turkey last Oct. 24 occurred while she was attending the annual forum of Parliamentarians for Global Action. "Doctors told me I'll be fine. I'm alright, though a little weak," she had said in her Twitter account shortly afterwards. The incident brought back memories of the feat of her namesake Miriam Quiambao 11 years ago, when Quiambao slipped fell onstage during the 1999 Miss Universe beauty pageant. Quiambao earned strong applause from the audience when she collected herself, regained her composure, and finished her walk. -TJD, GMANews.TV
