Report: Pacquiao recovering in LA after winning 8th world boxing title

A day after making boxing history by winning his eighth world boxing title, Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao is reportedly recovering from blows to his kidney. Pacquiao's adviser Rex "Wakee" Salud said Pacquiao sustained blows to his kidney during the sixth round of his World Boxing Council (WBC) super-welterweight fight against Mexican Antonio Margarito at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday (Manila time). "Medyo nagkuwan ang katawan niya ... Natamaan siya sa sixth round sa kidney (His body is hurting a bit. He was hit in the kidney in the sixth round)," Salud said in an interview on dzBB radio on Sunday. However, he said Pacquiao still got a clean bill of health from his doctor, adding that the boxing icon's urine and blood tests were "normal so far." An earlier report on dzBB radio said Pacquiao suffered pains on the chest and the other areas where Margarito hit him. His wife Jinkee had to assist him in walking during the Thanksgiving Mass after the bout, the report added. The report also said many celebrities visited Pacquiao hours after his victory over Margarito. People's champ Manny Pacquiao or Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao is an eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win 10 world titles in eight different weight divisions. The Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) has named him "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000s. He was rated as the number 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world by several sporting news and boxing websites, such as The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NBC Sports, Yahoo! Sports and About.com. He is the first active boxer to become a congressman in the Philippines. – VVP, GMANews.TV
