Another suspect in the Maguindano massacre falls

Six days before the first anniversary of the Maguindanao massacre, another accused in the multiple murder case was arrested early morning Wednesday in North Cotabato, a police official said. In a text message to reporters, Philippine National Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz said Manny U. Ampatuan was arrested in Barangay Capayoran in Pigcawayan town around 4:50 a.m. Cruz said Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) police and military elements under the Task Force Bigkis-Lahi seized the accused by virtue of arrest warrants issued by Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221. Among the accused in the multiple murder case, Ampatuan carries a P250,000 reward for his arrest, Cruz said. It was not immediately known if Manny is related to Andal Ampatuan Jr., the prime suspect in the case. Manny Ampatuan is now under the custody of the ARMM-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for proper disposition and turnover to the court. Of the 195 accused in the November 23 Ampatuan town massacre that killed 57 (32 of them were media workers), 82 are now under arrest while 113 others are still being hunted down, Cruz said. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
