5-year-old dies in Mandaluyong fire

A five-year-old boy died in a fire that razed a house in Mandaluyong City Wednesday night. Radio dzBB reported early Thursday the boy, initially identified as Aaron Gunio, was left alone in his house at 431 Barangka Drive in Plainview village. The fire started at 9 p.m. and spread to three other houses before firefighters put it out an hour later. While the boy's relatives tried to rescue him, the flames and smoke kept them from getting inside the house. Arson investigators are verifying neighbors' claims the fire may have stemmed from a candle left unattended, as there was a brownout at the time the fire started. — LBG
