Korean national drowns in Boracay

A Korean national died of drowning at a beach resort on Boracay Island in Aklan on Tuesday, a belated police report said Wednesday. Sin Seung Woo, 22, drowned at around 3 p.m. Tuesday after he went swimming with his friends at the Peninsula Beach Resort in Malay town, Chief Superintendent Cipriano Querol Jr. of Western Visayas regional police reported Wednesday. An initial investigation of the incident revealed that the victim went to the beach front with his friends at 2 p.m. Tuesday, and was reported missing after an hour. A local volunteer rescue team conducted a search-and-rescue operation to find Woo immediately after receiving the report, and found the unconscious body of the Korean national minutes later. The victim was rushed to the Boracay Municipal Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Querol, however, did not mention if owners of the beach resort will be held liable for the death of the Korean national.—Andreo C. Calonzo/JV, GMANews.TV
