UAAP 2nd semester begins on Saturday


Second semester action in the 73rd UAAP season begins on Saturday with the opening of the men’s and women’s volleyball events. University of Santo Tomas, perennial title contenders, and which celebrated a double championship last year, opens its title defense in both divisions when they take on Ateneo. Aiming for a third straight men’s crown,the Tigers battle the Blue Eagles in the 11 a.m. second match after the 9 a.m. opening game between the De La Salle Green Archers and the National University Bulldogs. The Tigresses, on the other hand, face pre-season favorite Lady Eagles in the 4 p.m. main game. The other women's match will have Far Eastern University taking on NU at 2 p.m. After volleyball, baseball opens on November 28 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field with a two-game schedule. Defending three-time champion Adamson begins its bid to win a fourth crown against Ateneo in the second game after the 7:30 a.m. opening match between UST and last season’s runner-up NU. The third match will have La Salle battling University of the Philippines. Other events set to open or which will be held next month are softball (December 1) at the UP Field and fencing at the Blue Eagle Gym (from December 9 to 11). The four remaining events will be held next year, with lawn tennis starting on January 8 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, while chess opens on the same day at the FEU New Tech Mini Auditorium. Football begins on January 16 at the Ateneo Field, while the UAAP board is planning to hold the four-day athletics competition, from February 1 to 4, either at the Rizal Memorial Stadium or at the University of Makati. – Jon Perez/KY, GMANews.TV
