Schools near Bulusan adopt shifting schedules for pupils

Schools near restive Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon province that are being used as evacuation centers have adopted shifting schedules for their pupils. Radio dzBB reported Friday the new class schedules were implemented particularly at the Gallanosa National High School in Irosin town. At least seven classrooms in the high school are being used as temporary shelter for residents in nearby villages who were evacuated from their homes. Other schools that also adopted shifting schedules in the town included Cogon Elementary School, Bolos Elementary School, Guruyan school, and Sangkayan school, the report said. Local officials have also distributed some 4,000 face masks to local students and teachers, it added. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) had raised Alert Level 1 at Bulusan last Nov. 6, after the volcano spewed ash and steam. Since then, Phivolcs has reminded the public not to venture inside the 4-km permanent danger zone, where sudden steam and ash explosions may occur. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
