Bayron scores twin kill in Canlubang golfest

Jay Bayron became a double winner Friday, ruling the ICTSI Canlubang Golf Invitational and capturing the Order of Merit title at the Canlubang Folf and Country Club in Canlubang, Laguna. Bayron upstaged Benjie Magada to secure the invitational crown. His victory enabled him to edge Juvic Pagunsan for the OOM award. Bayron won the award after garnering a total of P1,020,817 played over 13 stages in the pro tour. Pagunsan had a total of P930,332 earnings. Bayron buckled down to work with three birdies after an atrocious bogey opened his final round. He finished with a two-under-par 70 for a six-under 210 aggregate, enough to win him the P200,000 top prize. Magada settled for the runner-up prize of P120,000 with a 69 for 214. “My putting clicked today," said Bayron, winner of the Aboitiz Invitational in Cebu last August. "It was non-existent Thursday. The birdies I made in the first nine were from afar, from about 18 feet or more." Asistio was gunning for his maiden victory in the tour. He was leading by two strokes over Bayron Thursday, but limped to a five-over 77 after a double bogey on the 13th. He had a 215, the same score posted by Artemio Murakami (71) for joint third place worth a combined P115,000. “Experience carried Jay (Bayron) through. For my part, I lost focus," Asistio said after the awards ceremony. - RCJ, Adrian Flores, GMANews.TV
