Phivolcs: 11 quakes felt around Bulusan Volcano

At least 11 volcanic quakes, one of them explosive, were recorded around restive Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon in the last 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in its 8 a.m. Saturday update "one of the 11 quakes was explosion-type that was recorded at 7:27 p.m. Friday and lasted for 11 minutes." However, "the summit was cloud-covered hampering visual observation," it added. No rumbling sound was heard and no ash fall was observed in areas beyond four kilometers from the crater, it said. Phivolcs said the sulfur dioxide emission rate was measured at 13 tons/day. The alert status of Bulusan Volcano remains at "Level 1," even as Phivolcs reminded the public not to enter the 4-km permanent danger zone. — LBG, GMANews.TV
