PHL bets march into Phinma tennis quarterfinals

Top seed Clarice Patrimonio, Tamitha Nguyen, and Jurence Zosimo Mendoza of the Philippines marched into the quarterfinal round of the Phinma International Junior Tennis Championship after whipping their respective foes on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Patrimonio hurdled Darya Chertnesova of Belarus, 6-4, 6-2, to join some of the notable players like Week 1 champion Kathinka Von Deichmann of Liechtenstein, Desirae Krawczyk of the United States, and Tanaporn Thongsing in the Last 8. Nguyen, the second highest-rated Filipina in this tournament, also made her presence felt. She won over Astra Sharma of Australia, 7-6, 6-2. Mendoza was also fortunate in his second-round encounter in the boys’ division. He easily disposed of Aditcha Ichsand Haris of Indonesia, 6-3, 6-1. But several other local bets were not as lucky. Marinel Rudas lost to the third-ranked Siyu Qin, 4-6, 1-6, while the lovely Maika Jae Tanpoco also bowed to her foreign rival, Nathalia Haniejo of India, 6-1, 5-7, 4-6. Jasmine Ho succumbed to pressure and lost to Sanae Ota of Japan. – JVP/KY, GMANews.TV
