Ogie Alcasid’s dad named chair of PNOC's sister firm

Lawyer Hermino Alcasid Sr., father of singer, actor and television host Ogie Alcasid, was named chair of the board of PNOC Development and Management Corp. Thursday. The senior Alcasid took his oath before President Benigno Aquino III Thursday afternoon. His son Ogie was a staunch supporter of Aquino during his presidential campaign leading up to the May 10 elections earlier this year. The singer composed and performed Aquino’s first-ever campaign jingle “Si Noynoy". The PNOC-DMC, a subsidiary of the Philippine National Oil Company, is engaged in industrial estate development and management and manages a 123-hectare property in Rosario, Cavite, according to the PNOC website. Alcasid Sr. took his oath along with Commission on Filipinos Overseas chairperson Imelda Nicolas; Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Acting Executive Director Edgar Galavante; and Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board commissioner Felix William Fuentebella. Nicolas – who was among the “Hyatt 10" or the 10 Cabinet members of former President Gloria Arroyo who resigned after the “Hello, Garci" scandal – was the convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission. Galavante was a former Health undersecretary and executive director of the DDB during the Arroyo administration. Fuentebella meanwhile served as congressman representing the third district of Camarines Sur. Also sworn into office were Merceditas Tuason, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Holy See; Manuel Lopez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan; and Wilfredo Villacorta, Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Tuason, Lopez and Villacorta were all recently confirmed by the Commission on Appointments. Other officials who took their oaths before the President on Thursday were:

  • Interior and Local Government Acting Assistant Secretary Nariman Ambolodto;
  • National Commission on Muslim Filipinos Executive Director Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman; and
  • Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process commissioners Zenaida Brigida Hamada-Pawid, (representing Region I and the Cordilleras) and Dionesia Banua, (representing the island groups including Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, Panay and the rest of Visayas).
