An Army officer was found dead inside his quarters in Lanao del Sur on Saturday noon in what investigators considered as a case of suicide. 1st Lieutenant Remondo Estrada, 31, was found hanging inside the comfort room of his quarters in Wharf Base, Barangay Poblacion in Balabagan town, according to Senior Superintendent Cosanie Derogongan of the Lanao del Sur police. Estrada, married and who came from Pangasinan, was the commanding officer of âG" Company of the 51st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, Derogongan said Sunday in a text message to reporters. Estrada used a black leather belt in hanging himself, Derogongan said. âInitial investigation disclosed that [the] victim was found dead hanged inside Officers Quarter CR with the use of black leather belt tied to neck and the ceiling," part of Derogonganâs text message read. He said one Sgt. Bernardo Erni, who became suspicious after noticing that Estrada had not come out of his quarters at around lunchtime, discovered Estradaâs lifeless body. The victim was known to wake up at around 9 a.m. everyday. âUpon [noticing] the unusual time, TSgt. Erni decided to verify the situation inside his (Estrada) quarters by knocking on the door (halfway opened) several times but still no one answered," the text message read. Derogongan said Erni went inside Estradaâs quarters after knocking several times only to find the victimâs bed empty and the victimâs body hanging in the comfort room. - KBK, GMANews.TV
