Report: OFW hurt in oil rig fire in UAE

An overseas Filipino workers was reported injured after a fire gutted an oil rig at Khalid Port in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday. UAE-based news site Khaleej Times reported on Sunday that the fire, which hit the oil rig of a Korean firm, lasted an hour. The report said the OFW, whose name was not revealed, was hurt while escaping from the fire scene, and was rushed to a hospital. Sharjah Civil Defense director Waheed Al Serkal said the timely arrival of the fire brigade and Sharjah Civil Defense prevented the fire from spreading to the other facilities, companies, boats, and ships docked at the port. He said the civil defence received the report at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and rushed to the site to put out the fire, which was under control within an hour. He said the cooling operation aims to ensure that no debris is still burning to trigger a fire again because several flammable materials are in
the area. Serkal said vehicles were not allowed to enter Khalid Port during
the operations. The police are still investigating the cause of the fire. – VVP, GMANews.TV
