2 drown in Capiz floods — police


At least two people were killed in the floods that have ravaged over 100 barangays (village) in the province of Capiz in central Philippines following torrential rains that started Wednesday evening. "As of December 12, a total of 126 barangays with 6,900 families or 30,226 persons were affected by the flooding in Capiz," said Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. in a text message on Sunday. Cruz said the fatalities, whom he did not identify, drowned. The Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has already organized 40 evacuation centers, Cruz said. About 464 families have already sought shelter in these evacuation centers. "Continuous rescue operations are ongoing," Cruz said. - Jerrie M. Abella/KBK, GMANews.TV
